What to eat on Mounjaro to avoid nausea

Smaller meals, eaten slowly, with less fat, are the best-supported ways to reduce nausea on Mounjaro. Nausea is a common side effect, and for many people it eases after the first weeks.

Habits that help

  • Eat small meals every 3 to 4 hours. The 2025 advisory notes that vomiting is more likely with large meals.
  • Avoid large or high-fat meals, especially in the first days after starting or increasing your dose.
  • Stop at the first sign of fullness. Pushing on is the most common trigger.
  • Sip fluids through the day rather than drinking a lot with meals.
  • Limit alcohol. The NHS says alcohol can make nausea and sickness worse on tirzepatide.

Foods to go easy on

Fried food, takeaways, creamy sauces, very rich desserts and big fizzy drinks. You don't need to cut them out forever. Try a smaller portion once your stomach has settled.

Plan around your injection day

If nausea is worst a day or two after your weekly injection, keep those days simple: soup, yogurt, eggs, toast. A daily check-in helps you spot the pattern. In the SnapNosh app, a one-tap "how do you feel" log shows which day after your injection is usually hardest.

When to get medical help

Speak to your doctor, pharmacist or prescriber if sickness doesn't settle or you can't keep fluids down. Get urgent help (NHS 111 or 999 in the UK, your doctor or 911 in the US) for severe stomach pain that won't go away, which can be a sign of pancreatitis. Keep taking your medicine unless you're told to stop.
